NOUJICA is the collaboration of printed textile design artist Catherine Cournoyer, and glass artist Jinny Levesque. By integrating screen printing, glass work, drawing and sewing, they have created a unique line of clothing and accessories that are hand crafted in their Montreal-based studio since 2008.
Together they support the local work force by ensuring any necessary outsourcing of goods and services are provided primarily by local companies. While using only recycled and organic materials such as leather, cotton and linen, Noujica has reduced its carbon footprint, and therefore promotes responsible client awareness and consumption.
Jinny Lévesque has studied glass working at the Espace Verre in Montreal. Catherine Cournoyer has studied textile printing at Concordia University.
Our patterns are drawn by hand in order to create unique accessories and prints.
All our organic cotton fleeces and jacquard knits are proudly dyed and woven in Montreal. We consider this a way for us to offer quality and uniqueness, while supporting local businesses.
OUR VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER
Our bags are made of vegetable-tanned leather, a process of slow and traditional tanning derived from natural and biodegradable substances. Unlike tanning using heavy metals such as chromium, this leather is ethically and ecologically responsible, non-allergenic and is not harmful to the health of the farmers and those who work with it. This quality leather has natural colors, and will soften and develop a patina over time. Its authenticity can create slight irregularities on the surface of the leather (i.e. scarring, change in color and/or texture), giving each piece richness and uniqueness. Vegetable-tanned leather strikes a balance between tradition, design, authenticity, quality and comfort.
